Simplest Ways to Apply Eyeshadow
March 18, 2022
Eyeshadow: it may be your last-minute outfit’s pick-me-up or the first decision made at your vanity; bottom line, it’s something you chose to put on to help you express who you truly are.
Eyeshadow can be the star of your makeup look. Whether you want a pop of color or an added sparkle, eyeshadow can help enhance whatever makeup design you’re going for.
Eyeshadow Gets The Spotlight
Eyeshadow is one of the first makeup tools we feel we can have unlimited fun with. The different color and shape combinations of eyeshadow are practically endless.
Much of eyeshadow’s fun comes from the creativity unleashed by it. Unboxing a beautifully decorated eyeshadow palette and being captivated by the gorgeous colors begging to be played with makes for such an exciting experience. It’s basically an art palette for your face!
We’re all guilty of watching the latest palette unboxings and noting how every shade looks when swatched on our favorite Youtuber’s wrist.
Although some eyeshadow tutorials on Youtube or Tik Tok can seem pretty complicated, we’ve come up with our simplest ways to put on eyeshadow. But first, let’s make sure you have what you need.
The Tools You Need
As you get ready to apply your favorite eyeshadow shade, you’ll want to set up your vanity with a few tools to help get you started. Say hello to the eyeshadow dream team- the florence eyeshadow brush set.
With three everyday essential eyeshadow brushes, you can create any look that comes to mind or replicate one you saw walk down the red carpet. The soft and fluffy vegan bristles make blending shades easy (more on that later), while the lightweight handle makes for an easy grip.
Why is this brush set all that you need?
- A flat shadow brush will help you cover most of your canvas.
- A blending crease brush is great for laying down details.
- The angled liner brush will help with precision closer to your lash line.
Along with some clean, vegan, and cruelty-free makeup brushes, you’ll need your eyeshadow palette of the day, a pair of clean hands, and a face prepared for makeup.
Your Eyeshadow Tutorial
You can really play with eyeshadow however you’d like, but if you’re looking for a basic tutorial, we’ve gotchya covered.
#1 Apply Your Base Eyeshadow
A base eyeshadow is how you prep your canvas for the masterpiece you’re about to create. The base layer intensifies whatever pigment you lay on top of it. Think about how a neon yellow really pops when laid on top of white, or how red seems brighter laid over orange or yellow.
When it comes to color, try to imagine you have one solid piece of paper and one translucent one; make your base shadow choice based on what would make the translucent paper look its best.
If you’re going for a bold or smoky eye, you can apply your base color from your lash line up to your brow bone. For a simple eyeshadow look, stop at the crease. This way, when your eyes are open, your masterpiece will slightly peak out.
Now that you’ve got your base down, it’s time to get into the fun stuff.
#2 Your Main Lid
On top of your base layer, you’re going to apply the eyeshadow color that’s drawing your attention the most. If you’re going for secret spy vibes, black works well, and if you want to create a bright, summer look, blue eyeshadow does the trick.
Your eyelids often take up a lot of real estate on your face, and eyes are one of the most prominent features on anyone. Whatever color you choose to put on your lids will heavily sway the direction of your overall look.
Apply this shade the same way you applied your base layer. Work up to your crease, blending the color in with your base.
#3 Get Into Your Creases
You’ll most likely make your crease the darkest part of your makeup look. If you haven’t noticed by now, your eyeshadow application works from lighter shades to darker ones. Your base is the lightest, your lid will be darker, and your crease will be darkest.
You’ll use your blending crease brush to add a darker shade to your creases. Dark colors add depth to your eyes and contrast nicely with the white part of your eyes.
If you have monolids (ones without a crease), a dark shade will help you cut a crease to use as your guide.
#4 Spice Up Your Corners And Lids
With a base, your lids, and your crease fully covered, you can add some smaller details that really make your eyes pop.
A light color or highlighter can be super effective in the corner of your eyes or laid over the foundation of your eye makeup.
Apply a dot of highlighter to the inner corners of your eyes to add shimmer and dimension to your look. A thin layer of highlighter on top of your matte lids can make them shine without changing their color.
Now that you have a complete eyeshadow look, you can add your cat eyeliner or mascara to create some extra flare.
Eye Shadow, You Shadow
With the All Eyes on London and Ubu eyeshadow palettes, you have twenty-one shades to play with. That’s not just twenty-one days of looks; that’s hundreds. Mix and match your bases, top layers, and crease shades to create a different look for every day of the year. You can always blend two colors to create an entirely new one. It’s that simple!
You can use eye shadow to open up your eyes, complement your skin tone, or express your true self. Enjoy your palettes of possibilities.
